Joao Domingos Francisco is the head of the Volunteer Provincial Council in Manica Province, Mozambique. In early 2019, this province was affected by Cyclone Idai and Joao coordinated and managed all the interventions of volunteers on the ground, in coordination with the government. He played a crucial role working closely with volunteers, communities and government authorities.
His first contact with VSO Mozambique was through the Volunteering for Development programme in 2018. Joao benefited from training in core approaches, gender and social inclusion, resilience and social accountability, and other critical issues to Mozambique’s National Volunteer law, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Joao is a teacher by profession and completed his studies in English language teaching in Mozambique. He is originally from Beira district, Mozambique, which was badly damaged by Cyclone Idai.
