Dr. Jacob Mati currently teaches sociology and social policy at the School of Social Sciences, The University of the South Pacific, Fiji. He is also a Research Fellow at both the Society, Work and Politics Institute (SWOP) and the African Centre for Philanthropy and Social Investments (ACPSI) at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
His formal education includes a B.A from Moi University (Kenya); an M.A in Development Studies; and Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology (both from The University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa).
His professional experience spans over 20 years of work in academia and international development as a researcher, lecturer, programme manager and volunteer in several multi-country research and development programmes in various organisations across the globe. Jacob researches volunteerism and civil society and their intersections with democracy, governance and ‘development’.
