Annie is the director of the Rwanda Initiative for Sustainable Development (RISD), an NGO which focuses on policy research and advocacy. RISD particularly works on land-rights related policies through the lens of gender.
Annie is highly recognised for her contribution to the area of land rights for the poor and the vulnerable through advocacy campaigning. Under her leadership, RISD is the first agency in Rwanda to introduce use of information and communication technology to support mediation processes in the country.
Under Annie’s advocacy and campaign work, the Rwandan Civil Society through LandNet has made a significant contributions to the success of the current land reform process in Rwanda, understood by many as the most successful model for Africa.
Annie holds an MA in Development Studies and has over 20 years’ field experience both in the Great Lakes Region and internationally. She is a big promoter of the use of volunteers as they can be highly technical, impact- and objective-focused.
